Gratitude, Thankfulness, Best Wishes

Made a fire, grabbed the Sunday NY Times, and sat down outside in front of the chimenea. It's so nice to have a sit. Should I feel guilty about that man over there who's raking the yard?!

Another moment of clarity, this time with a note of peace and gratitude. My boy flew in and shared good food, good times, and a couple of walks around the neighborhood. It's been a long semester and now the next few weeks promise that the Christmas holiday is near--more time to listen and share stories from the East and the West.

Did you have family gatherings that you will now cherish as your loved ones return to the demands of work? Perhaps you'll write some of your best memories in a journal, perhaps images will come to mind that you'll paint about later. This reminds me of genealogy research. There are significant dates in every history, but those that include stories (silly or serious) and images (photos, drawings, paintings) make a history worth remembering.

I continue to be thankful to all who visit here. I'm especially grateful when you comment and when you teach me new things. It gives me joy to know that there are kind hearts out there painting and overcoming all the trivia that seeks to keep art from existing. But, of course, we all know that that is impossible. We are unstoppable! With best wishes--m --

Here sits a visitation of joy, captured by a flickering light
Easing the cry of a world yearning to rest
Just for a moment
This is my gratified wish
To be present in this warm light
Not far away
Where I am of no use

Melinda — don't feel guilty about being where you are supposed to be, unless you choose to.

Wasn't it Eleanor Roosevelt who said something to the effect that no one could make you feel bad about yourself unless you gave them permission first?

One of the things I am grateful for, is the blogging community, particularly because it means I can come here and read your perspective-changing musings and piquant poetry.

Thanks for the 'fireside chat.'

Oh, goodness, Edgar, I should have titled the post "fireside chat." Nice. And, the "piquant" word is very generous.
Thank you.

Hi Melinda!

It was so nice to read the word gift you left for me on my blog. It came on a day when I needed that act of kindness -- Thank you!

I am so happy to have found your blog and your incredible work!
I spent time yesterday going back and forth -- "is this one my favorite?" "no -- it is this one!" "no- this one!!!"
You have captured the beauty of the desert landscapes with such accuracy that I was transported to the warmth and color of a town I dearly love -- Thank you again!

Sending you my best!
Keep making art!!

What strikes me about this post is the tone of serenity. Just when people are gearing up for the holiday frazzle, you sound serene in the midst of it. I like that very much. Peace. Life is good. Be still and enjoy being in it.

I like your slide show! It's lovely to see the body of work you've done.

Artist in the Arctic,
Thank you for stopping by and leaving such a generous comment. I feel inspired to overcome the block that has been haunting me...and will push on through.

It was a gift to have discovered your blog and I look forward to visiting it again. You are so talented with both words and images!

Hi David,
My response to you--HA!
The first word that came to mind was HA! Then, cheeky...very funny!

It's getting easier and easier to stay in the moment, now that my short term memory is on the decline.

Glad you came by. I've been googling Scottish slang. I'll try it out on you some day.

Thank you, Silvina! You're right. It was a definite, discrete moment in time that I felt real serenity and a sense of being in the present. I hope I can get that again during this month.

Thank you, too, for your kind comment about the slideshow. Glad you liked it.

Wishing you the same peace!

David--Again, ha! I don't know what you wrote, but I'll guess at the translation:
"Long may your something, something
And your feet smell of something"

Which prolly means, "Live long and prosper"--Scotty

OOOoooo! I want to do that!

Melinda, I love your art, both visual and literary.
Have you ever considered submitting something to "Sun" magazine? A lit mag without advertisements.
Sometimes gloomy (truth) sometimes joyous.

I love your writings Melinda.
Do you submit to any magazines, or are you planning on any books?
A literary magazine I get, "The Sun" would be an excellent format for your work.

Deb,
I don't know what to say...I'm really touched by your comment. Last night I checked out the Sun and am going to read more about it. I'm flattered...and humbled. I've never, ever thought of myself as a writer.
Thanks so much for coming by.
