Drawing Moments

Just a quick post this week. While waiting for food to cook, I had a moment to draw sunflowers in a tall vase. The flowers in the garden are nearly past their prime, but the finches are eagerly harvesting the seeds and a quail family with seven little babes are enjoying the seeds that fall to the ground. I wanted to include lots of fun quotes for today, but ran out of time. However, if you've ever heard Steven Wright deliver one of his quirky observations, you might get a chuckle from revisiting these quotes. Some of my favorites: "It's a small world, but I wouldn't want to paint it," "I have an existential map. It has 'You are here' written all over it," and, "Anywhere is walking distance, if you've got the time." But, my favorite quote is from either Edmund Gwenn or Sir Donald Wolfit, "Dying is easy, comedy is hard." Having a successful work of art is a bit like comedy, isn't it?!

Hi Melinda,

This is so freaky. I posted another picture of Colbert today and said that
comedy is the real deal. Comedy is not hard with brilliant, witty people like you. It is as natural as breathing.

Love the drawing. Love, Love, Love.

Great drawing. Good for you: art while the food cooks. Yes!
I love Steven Wright! Also love Jerry Seinfeld and Margaret Cho, both of whom were extremely funny live.
Baby quail!! That must be adorable. Any chance of a pic of them in your garden?

Fabulous drawing!! The sunflowers are amazing ... and I love the Wright quotes; I'm familiar with, but forgot about, him! The comedian I find myself most often quoting is George Carlin ... everything that happens seems to have some corrollary in his work!

Hi Barbara,
Wow. Yes, this is freaky. I'm seeing that this happens a lot (especially with your postings) and I really don't know what the phenomenon is, but I like it!

I'm so serious sometimes in my posts that I wanted to lighten up a bit. I'm gonna try to do that a little more often.

Thank you for the compliment. You inspired me to draw this.

Hi Jala,
Thank you! Say, I don't want to give the wrong impression here...I am not a cook!! (Like, "I am not a crook"). But, I did feel quite virtuous drawing this while the green beans were simmering.

Amazing and fun that you remember Steven Wright. Yes, comedians are good medicine. I like your choices too.

In fact, I do have a photo of the quail family that I can share. I'm going to put it under the drawing in the post. They are incredibly cute.

Art FAn Ako,
Thank you so much for visiting. I'll have to go see what you're up to!

Hope you'll stop by again.

Hi Laura,
Thank you! I felt a bit guilty for not using color, but the lines and the vase image were very interesting to me.

I loved George Carlin. He really was an extremely intelligent man and said important things while making us all laugh, yes?
